Shouting into the Storm Rantings, ramblings, observations and musings from the insipid to the sublime

Clichés, continued.

Thanks to Chris Casilli back up in Boston for chiming in with two. I actually hit myself in the head when I read these, they are so obvious.

"Looks aren't important." This is just plain silly. Of course looks are important. They might not be the most important thing, and in the long run they tend to take a backseat to other characteristics. But there needs to be some base attraction. This is perhaps the Number One cliché you will never hear a guy say. Guys will always admit looks are important, although the good ones will at least be a little sheepish about it. And the kissing cousin to this cliché is...

"A sense of humor is most important." As my buddy points out, there is a fine line here. A guy trying to hang his hat on this one runs the risk of coming off like a child, or even worse, Dennis Miller. The main problem with this is that ones sense of humor is not evident by the naked eye, unless a lady is observing him cut up his friends from across the room. I've also noticed that those who are the class clowns of group get dumped in the Friend Bin, usually with such cutting phrases as "but I just don't see you in That Way."
